Shopify Templates
Templates and design work
After registration, you get to the control panel, bypassing the traditional template selection step for designers. By default, the Debut theme is selected – a basic template that is not filled with demo content. This is a design with a classic set of blocks for a store. Easy to customize – good source material for a future store.
Of course, you can change the starting template to another one. To do this, go to “Online Store – Themes – Visit theme store”. All templates are divided into collections (the same categories), and they can be filtered based on the features of novelty, popularity, paid, and free. Unfortunately, there are not enough free templates – only 10 pieces. The quality is decent. In principle, among them, you can find one that, after a little customization, can fit. Just choose by structure, don’t look at the demo content, it’s easy to replace.
There are currently 45 paid templates. The cost ranges from 100 to 180 US rubles. In general, they are definitely more interesting than free ones due to the variety and design techniques used. But there is no gap in quality between regular and paid ones. More fantasy has been invested in the latter, but the difference can easily be compensated by finalizing a free copy.
Each template has a description, 2-3 design styles with a live preview, examples of sites created based on it, and user reviews. In general, choosing a template from Shopify is a pleasant procedure. Everything is set thoroughly, it is difficult not to understand something or make a mistake with the choice.
You can install several templates at once by designating one of them as the main one. You can switch at any time. It is also possible to upload your own templates. Each of them has flexible settings. You can change the order of the blocks that it consists of and customize the design as a whole: colors, typography, social bar position, and favicon. Each section also has settings – select an image, or text, align as needed, enable/disable buttons, and menus, set the sizes of individual elements, etc.
Customization options differ markedly for different templates depending on the format and set of sections. One thing in common: everywhere they are quite solid. Even a basic template can be perfected. The possibility of direct access to the code can also help with this. You can download the files of any of the installed templates on your PC and conjure them as much as you like. But here you need knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP.
Templates, respectively, too. All standard inscriptions will be in English. But you can manually localize any template. To do this, you need to install it and in the theme, settings click “…” – “Edit languages”. A window will open in which all text materials of the template are divided into sections and signed. You need to replace the English phrases with any others, saving the result. To be honest, there is a lot of work there. Not particularly convenient, but there is no other option when working with Shopify.
Let’s summarize. Paid templates in the system are quite expensive by our standards. Few free. The quality of both is at a strong medium or high level. The customization options are above average, the settings interface is user-friendly. The need for manual localization greatly spoils the impression and complicates the work with the system. Without knowledge of English, there is nothing to do in Shopify. The overall rating of what he saw is 4.
